Prakash Gurung
3 x Everest
IMFGA Certified Mountain Guide
and Mountaineering Instructor
Prakash Gurung is a professional mountain guide who has climbed Mount Everest, Manaslu and other high peaks of the Himalaya. He has also guided climbers on 8,000 meter peaks, including Mt. Everest, Amadablam and Lobuche. Prakash has a keen interest in educating people who are passionate about mountaineering by sharing his experiences of long climbs and adventures.
Prakash was born in Tanahun village in western, Nepal and stayed there with my mother until he was a teenager. He came to Kathmandu to study and finish high school here. Later started college however he did not have the financial resources for the tuition costs. So, he opted to begin Trekking Guide training that included working as a porter in Langtang. During this training he was very inspired by his instructors who were fully qualified IFMGA mountain guides. He worked as a porter for one full year before he was
able to become an Assistant Guide.
In 2015, He was an Assistant Guide on a Great Himalayn Trail expedition. It was his duty to monitor, keep clients together and ensure they were well taken care of.
During the Great Himalayn Trail expedition there were many opportunities to learn. From getting safely across high mountain passes to ensuring the safety of all following the infamous earthquake, the technical support necessary from the IFMGA guides to ensure the safety of all clients and the expedition team inspired him. It was then that he set his heart on becoming a fully qualified mountain guide.
